Pregnancy Chiropractic at Lion City Chiropractic
Although it’s considered an exciting time of life, pregnancy is also accompanied by not-so-pleasant symptoms, such as sciatic pain, hip pain, nausea and more.
Preconception Care
We see women in our office from preconception to the postpartum period. It’s important to prepare the body for pregnancy, and chiropractic can help do exactly that. We recommend coming in at least 6 months before conception. A year, however, is preferable.

Benefits During Pregnancy
Once a patient is pregnant, as the baby continues to grow, chiropractic can help the mom’s alignment be optimal. Adjustments allow the baby to develop as they should, because as you align the mum’s spine, you’re also increasing the ability of the nervous system to function and thrive. That is what is producing and helping develop the baby in the first place.
Chiropractic may also help pregnant women have easier and faster labours, which was Chiropractor Dr Hope’s experience during pregnancy as well.
The Value of Postpartum Care
During pregnancy, many women take care to nurture their bodies, and then postpartum, they often put their health on the back burner. Doing so can be damaging for a mother in multiple ways: emotionally, mentally and physically. That’s because you just put your body through the biggest marathon of your life, and it doesn’t end right after the labour.
Unsurprisingly, there’s a massive amount of baby care postpartum. A mum’s body can wear down, and there can be a lot of neck pain and shoulder pain from breastfeeding. Women can experience low back pain from carrying the baby, putting the baby in the crib, and picking the baby up. Feeding the baby in awkward positions to avoid waking them up can also produce back pain. For these reasons and more, it’s crucial for mothers to seek chiropractic care postpartum.
Dr Hope, who is a mum of two, likes seeing patients postpartum because she knows full well the struggles a new mother can go through. Chiropractic may help with the following:
- Incontinence problems
- Pelvic floor instability
- Breastfeeding difficulties
- Hormonal imbalance
- Diastasis recti
What to Expect
On the first visit, you’ll have a thorough consultation with the doctor, who will then perform an exam and take your clinical history. “We are trained to gather information about the mum. From there, we will take the information and go through a report of our findings, and from there will get her adjusted,” said Dr Hope.
As a woman’s belly continues to grow during pregnancy, we adjust differently, because there are limitations with adjusting a pregnant woman. We have equipment in the office to assist us. Rest assured that we do not take X-rays of expecting women.
